The Spotlight Awards (Seacoast NH area theatre awards, sponsored by the Portsmouth Herald) were announced recently, and the production of Henry 5.0 that I directed last summer picked up a nomination: Carolyn Connolly for Best Supporting Actress. Woo hoo!
She did an outstanding job. That's not meant to disdain the performances of the other actors, of course, but I have to single her out for praise. Carolyn demonstrated her determination and commitment to her craft, performing mostly in French, a language she had very little knowledge of beforehand. She busted her butt for that role. She's since moved to LA, where I fully expect her to thrive.
Of course, I could quibble that her name initally appeared on the ballot credited to the wrong play, and the Herald's oversight may have cost her some votes. But why bother? What do we want from our local news? Accuracy?
(Umm, actually... uhh... not to put too fine a point on it... yes...)
